Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EPCCD), Government of the Punjab is administering the Punjab Environmental Protection Act, 1997. It is an Act to provide for the protection, conservation, rehabilitation and improvement of the environment, for the prevention and control of pollution, and promotion of sustainable development.
The Punjab Green School Certification Program is an initiative of the EPCCD, with the vision of "Inspiring students to build a climate-resilient Punjab".
Program Development Timeline
Formulation Committee Constituted
A formulation Committee was established to identify and recommend the criteria, methodology, and implementation framework for the program. The committee comprised partner organizations including the School Education Department (SED), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Lahore Biennale Foundation (LBF), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), and WWF-Pakistan.
First Committee Meeting
The first meeting of the committee was held, during which four thematic working groups were established.
Working Groups Presentation
In the second meeting, working groups presented their reports and submitted their recommendations on 22.08.2025, which, among other outcomes, proposed the formation of an Implementation Committee to oversee the program's rollout.
Implementation Committee Notified
The Implementation Committee was formally notified, with the Secretary, EPCCD serving as the Convener/Chairperson.
Implementation Committee First Meeting
The first meeting of this committee was held, where a detailed briefing on the implementation framework was conducted. A draft framework was submitted on 26.09.2025 for review and feedback.
Framework Finalized
The finalized Implementation Framework was unanimously endorsed by all committee members during the second meeting, marking a key milestone in the institutionalization of the program.
